They aren't as "discount" and are heavier, but the extra padding is very much worth it in my opinion.

With respect to length and width, as I said, the traditional dimensions should suffice. However, if you are of larger than average stature, you may have to pay a slight premium for a slightly longer or wider mat, but you want ensure that you have enough room to perform your yoga properly!

This one is pretty obvious. There are a plethora of colors and patterns to choose from. Low Impact (Environmental That Is!)

There's even a category of yoga mats which will shrink or even eliminate your environmental footprint, at least with respect to your yoga practice. Normal (i.e., non eco-friendly) cheap yoga mats normally contain PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic, commonly known as vinyl. PVC contaminate the environment throughout its lifecycle, and the chemical toxins that accompany it are harmful to us! Therefore, a good eco-friendly, green discount yoga mat should be "PVC free". They should also contain as few man-made additives as possible.

There are a few other things you might want to consider, like texture and mat "stickiness", but these are the major attributes to keep in mind. If you do that, it will be very easy for you to find a discount yoga mat that works for you and your yoga goals!
